Jeff Bezos has surpassed Zara boss Amancio Ortega and legendary Warren Buffett with $75.6 billion in assets.
Increasing Amazon stock by more than 2% yesterday helped Bezos’s fortune gain $1.5 billion in just one day. Earlier, e-commerce giant announced plans to acquire online retailer Souq.com of Dubai.
Bezos currently has $75.6 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The figure is $700 million higher than Buffett’s and $1.3 billion more than Ortega.
This year, Bezos has added $10.2 billion. Also from the moment global stocks rebounded after Donald Trump’s victory last year, Amazon founder added $ 7 billion. This is the third highest increase among wealthy people monitored by Bloomberg in 2017, after billionaire Wang Wei ($18.4 billion) and Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg ($11.4 billion).
Warren Buffett added $1.7 billion this year. His fortune has dropped $4.7 billion since hitting $79.6 billion earlier this month. Meanwhile, Ortega added $2.1 billion. The richest man in the world is still Microsoft founder Bill Gates with $86 billion.
