According to Michael Valdsgaard, Leader of Digital Transformation at Inter Ikea, this will be the first augmented reality app that enable customer to make buying decisions. This is also an important time to develop AR to become a tool. This app enables users to try out virtual furniture at home before buying them.
This app will be launched in this fall and start with 500-600 available in app. After that, any new supported product will be automatically showed up in AR. Ikea is looking to cooperate with Apple not only because of technological advancements but also the large number of iOS users that Apple brings.
Ikea is going to start new products on the app before going to the store. The AR platform has been received the attention of Ikea to meet the scope expansion. This application will rapidly become the largest AR platform in the world.
Valdsgaard added the stores are our greatest assets. They have almost 400 of stores and they want to complement them in as many ways as possible, through mobile, social media, AR and third-party e-commerce players. One thing will not replace the other, but they will try as many things as possible.
