The 2018 McLaren 570 Spider has been officially uncovered ahead of its public debut on June 29 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The third body style in the McLaren Sports Series joins the Coup and GT models which are using a retractable hardtop with technology derived for the 650S and 675LT Spider models. Notably, 46 kg is added to the total weight of the 570 Coupe, with structural rigidity unchanged. The folding hardtop takes 15 seconds to open or close and can be operated at speed of up to 40km/hour. The car gets a 12mm higher rear spoiler to compensate for a change in dynamics.
McLaren Chief Executive Mike Flewitt explains: “The 570S Spider’s midrange engine layout and robust carbon fiber body frame ensure that the same level of dynamic performance and features are maintained. Other driver assistance is available on the 570S Coupe, while adding aesthetics to the foldable hardtop. ”
This roof requires 15 seconds to close or to open, at speeds not to exceed 40 km/h. In addition, the sports supercar is equipped with a front-facing electric windshield which can be controlled via a button. As with the coupe version, the 570S Spider is powered by the 3.8-liter dual-turbocharged V8 engine.
This engine produces 562 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 600 Nm of torque ranging from 5,000 to 6,500 rpm. As a result, the convertible 570S convertible can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, rolling a top speed of 328 km/h when parked, and 315 km/h when lowering the hood.
